Grammy Awards Winner, Burna Boy Comes Under Fire For Receiving Land and Money Gifts From Gov. Wike

Nigerian Award winning Singer,Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu AKA BurnaBoy has come under fire for receiving gifts from Governor Wike of Rivers State during his #BurnaboyHomecoming yesterday in the state.

BurnaBoy who recently won the much coveted Grammy awards was invited and celebrated yesterday by Governor Nyesom Wike.

He was given a land in GRA Porthacourt,Rivers State and also cash to build it. Other artists who performed at the #BurnaboyHomecoming were given #10million each.

Several Nigerians questioned BurnaBoy’s uprightness as he seemed to always attack the government for underperformance .

These are some of the reactions:

“Burna Boy’s politics starts and ends with his songs. In reality, he neither has the depth nor the guts to actually challenge the system he’s always criticising. But thanks for the music tho. At least it makes us feel good.”
“Burna Boy accepting Governor Wike gifts while he is owing PH pensioners is the highest level of hypocrisy.. same Burna Boy that was asking the youths to hold our politicians accountable???”

“They want to turn burnaboy into a dog licking their wounds. Fela was never like this. It simple means Burna only wanted things done for himself, he just needed us (the crowd) to get noticed. Smh”
“Burna Boy sang about monsters you made, referring to Nigerian politicians but same guy received N10M and a land from Governor Wike, Burna’s activism ehn, E don spoil 🤣”
“Burna Boy and the rest of the artistes will collect N10M each from Wike and celebrate it here. Next day they will tweet about lack of infrastructure and focus on Lagos State. Have they ever ask Wike about End SARS Judicial Panel of Inquiry?”
“Even Burna can’t ask Wike why he no develop Rivers but he came to Lagos become successful remembered he came from Rivers to do Home Coming but want to help destroy Lagos. This life no balance.HYPOCRISY404.”

“Burna actually charged Wike N100m before even agreeing to step foot in Rivers state.Burnaboy won’t ask his god, Wike what happened in Obigbo? What’s going on with EndSars judicial panel — na fake fela shaaaa!”
“Same Burna who put a blood stained flag as his avi..just watch that video and see his musical refrain when Wike said nobody can challenge him in Rivers state . Told y’all these guys are using your lives to play Nairabet the other day Bovi used Nig flag to revive his dying career”

Do you think it was wrong for Burna Boy to receive gifts from Governor Wike?

Coming to America 2, a sequel to the timeless movie was premiered by Amazon Studios yesterday, 5th of March,2021 admist funfare  and galore. The theme of African Royalty was well portrayed by Nigerian Entertainers.

Emma Ugolee, a Nigerian ace Broadcaster and writer extraordinary shared his thoughts on the much anticipated movie.

“There are some classics that are best left alone”… These were my published thoughts when the making of the sequel of Coming to America was announced. My worry was the famous “sophomore slump”.

A SOPHOMORE SLUMP : “An instance in which a second, or sophomore, effort fails to live up to the relatively high standards of the first effort.” I’m sorry but there couldn’t be a realer description of Coming 2 America. The only problem with the movie
is the size of the shoes it had to wear. Get rid of any sense of expectation & you would have a fantastic movie in this sequel
I say this because the effort to recreate a classic was hard to ignore. The pluses for this picture, for me included:

FACES : This movie was pleasantly star studded and yet the faces didn’t overwhelm the characters as you’ll enjoy the roles they play & for a minute forget the people they are. Almost every scene was graced by an established showbiz icon.

GENERATIONAL GLIDE : This movie found away to to include every generation there is, in the fun. So if you, like me, saw the 1st Movie as a teenager in 1988, you
could still relate to faces like John Amos, Wesley Snipes, James Earl Jones, Envouge, Gladys Knight, Morgan Freeman, Eddie Murphy & Sharon Headley.

Then there was the generation that didn’t meet Eddie as a stand up comic but know Tracey Morgan, Lesley Jones and Luenell. These ones too could relate to Rick Ross and Garcell Beauvals.

And finally even Gen Z would feel it was a movie made for them when you realize that Rotimi, Teyana Taylor, Jennifer Sears were also there.

REPING AFRICA : This effort shouldn’t go
unappreciated. From SA, Ghana & Nigeria, Trevor, Blackson & Davido had the black continent truly feeling like part of this. It was like finding Uncle Pete in Wakanda. Would have truly left us with a strong sense of inclusion. Well, this movie did just that. You
would also hear Tiwa and Burna’s voices with such pride.

DELIVERY: Practically everyone killed their roles. Wasn’t amateur night at all. My favorite character however was General Izzi played by Wesley Snipes.
At last, someone sounded African without sounding primitive. He was outstanding.

More of the things I enjoyed were:

COSTUMING: Was elaborate and every inch
LOCATION: I hear this is Rick Ross’s house. Fantastic scenery. And the Halem bit was so reflective of the images from part one. The nostalgia was real.
MUSIC: Music performances would leave you smiling
PACE : No dragging. Near 2 hours would pass in a flash. Interest is sustained
HUMOR : The typical comic relief spread across part, one found a way to relive itself here.
DIRECTING : Looking basic from a distance but many pro’s would appreciate the directorial approach. Simple and Drama friendly but technically sound.
LESSON: The message of having the heart to walk your own path is nicely laid down along side “Girl Power”. You’ll also appreciate the deliberate addressing of the impression of Africa, the starved
children & flies.

I also found a few minuses however, in
STORY : Was passively enjoyable and became near predictable towards the end. I’ve seen part 1 some 20 times. Not sure i would do a 3rd with this, at the
SCRIPTING : There was an overly repeated attempt to recreate scenes from part one. A little overboard if you ask me. Once or twice would have been fine but with this movie, too many scenes were created off the mould of scenes from part one.

Overall it wasn’t a bad picture but the sheer level of expectation makes a 60% the best ill give it. And frankly, it might have been more but for the humongous impact part one left in our lives. And so I’ll repeat, let the true classics be. There is no  redoing”Sound of Music, The Good Bad and Ugly, or  Village Headmaster”

John David Washington is a fantastic actor but the beginning of his end would be an attempt to be his father Denzel
Femi Kuti is successful because he is not trying to be Fela.
Some acts are best not followed. But for those with the heart to remake history, beware of the SOPHOMORE SLUMP. Coming 2 America just proved how real it is”.

What are your thoughts on the movie?

Patrick J. Adams Defends Meghan Markle Over Buckingham Palace Accusations/Investigation..

Tension is at its peak at Buckingham Palace as after it was announced that they started an investigation against Meghan Markle after being reported of alleged abuse of her staff.

On the other hand, her  former” Suits ” co-star decided to come out in front and defend her. ” Meghan Markle and I spent a decade working together in Suits From day one, she was an enthusiastic, kind, cooperative, generous, cheerful and supportive person… It is OBSCENE that the Royal Family, whose newest member is GROWING INSIDE HER, is promoting and amplifying the allegations of ‘bullying’ against a woman who was basically forced to leave the UK to protect her family and her own mental health… Find someone else to rebuke, rebuke and torment. My friend Meghan is out of your reach “, the actor wrote.

Patrick J Adams who played ‘ Mike Ross’ in USA Network Series ‘Suits’ told the british press in clear terms to let Meghan Markle be.

“Meghan Markle and I spent the better part of a decade working together on Suits. From day one she was an enthusiastic, kind, cooperative, giving, joyful and supportive member of our television family. She remained that person and colleague as fame, prestige and power accrued.

She has always been a powerful woman with a deep sense of morality and a fierce work ethic and has never been afraid to speak up, be heard and defend herself and those she holds dear. Like the rest of the world, I have watched her navigate the last few years in astonishment.

It sickened me to read the endless racist, slanderous, clickbaiting vitriol spewed in her direction from all manner of media across the UK and the world but I also knew that Meghan was stronger than people realized or understood and they would regret underestimating her.

And then they welcomed Archie. And on any sort of decent planet that would be a time to stop sharpening the knives and let these two people enjoy the magical early months and years of starting a family. But we don’t live on that planet and instead the hunt continued.

It’s OBSCENE that the Royal Family, who’s newest member is currently GROWING INSIDE OF HER, is promoting and amplifying accusations of “bullying” against a woman who herself was basically forced to flea the UK in order protect her family and her own mental health.

IMO, this newest chapter and it’s timing is just another stunning example of the shamelessness of a institution that has outlived its relevance, is way overdrawn on credibility and apparently bankrupt of decency.

Find someone else to admonish, berate and torment. My friend Meghan is way out of your league.”
